ADVENTURES BY THE SEA – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

Nature Play SA, City of Holdfast Bay and Seacliff Surf Life Saving Club are so excited to bring you Adventures by the Sea to the beautiful Seacliff Beach this Summer.

As Nature Play SA is a small team and there’s always lots of interest in our events we’ve developed this FAQ page to help with common questions.

ACTIVITIES AND AGES

What can we do at Adventures by the Sea?

There will be a range of activities for children aged 4 years and upwards, including: cricket, totem tennis, nipper boards with Seacliff Surf Life Saving Club, sand mandalas, wodli building- with Tamaru, sandcastles, kite flying, marine walks and beach combing bingo. Join us to discover some of the weird and wonderful plants and animals that live along the coastline, where they come from and where they go.

What age is Adventures by the Sea targeted at?

Adventures by the Sea has been especially created for families
with children 4 – 12 years. Younger siblings are welcome to attend to enjoy being outdoors with the people they love and interact with nature. Please note if your child does not have a wrist band they will not be able to participate in the activities. Wrist bands will be issued on arrival to registered children.

ACCESS

Is the event pram friendly?

Yes – there are footpaths around the event site. Although we don’t recommend trying to push a pram in the sand. For those with prams parking is not recommended on Burnaham Rd, Strickland Rd or Kingston Cres, as access is via stairs.

 

Is there wheelchair access?

The main foot paths at the event site are accessible for wheelchairs additionally the wheel chair mat will be laid between 10:00am – 11:30am to allow wheel chair access to the beach. If you have a disabled parking permit or special rights you will be supported with appropriate parking. For those with wheel chairs parking is not recommended on Burnaham Rd, Strickland Rd or Kingston Cres, as access is via stairs. Disabled access toilets are located on the lower level of the Seacliff Surf Life Saving Club.

Do I need to book tickets?

How much does the event cost?

Yes, tickets are essential and strictly limited to ensure the enjoyment and safety of attendees –  tickets will be released and can be booked via natureplaysa.org.au/events. Please ensure you read the booking instructions carefully prior to purchasing your tickets.

Tickets are required for ALL children 4-12 years attending. No further tickets will be available once the event has sold out and entry to the event will only be granted to those with valid tickets. 

Tickets are $5 per child (plus Eventbrite fees). Adults are free of charge. At the event, you’ll also be able to make a membership purchase from the Nature Play SA pop-up shop. Seacliff Surf Life Saving Club will be open for food and drink needs!

Is my ticket transferrable to other Nature Play SA events?

Sorry, your ticket is only valid for Adventures by the Sea.

Can I change my booking?

Nature Play SA is a small team and unfortunately we don’t have the capacity to change bookings. Please ensure you read the booking instructions carefully prior to purchasing your tickets to avoid disappointment. Tickets are non refundable and non transferable.

PARKING AND TRANSPORT

What’s the parking situation?

To assist with your planning, we strongly encourage car-pooling to support parking management and minimise environmental impact. A short walk to the event should be anticipated and a drop-off zone will be available. If you have a disabled parking permit or special rights you will be supported with appropriate parking arrangements.

The main car park is located at 248 Esplanade Seacliff, carpark spaces are also located along the Esplanade. Burnham Rd, Strickland Rd and Kingston Cres has overflow carparking spaces. Please not Burnham Rd, Strickland Rd and Kingston Cres carpark spaces require access to the event via stairs.

Are there public transport options?

Yes, please visit Adelaide Metro https://www.adelaidemetro.com.au to coordinate your public transport arrangement.

PLANNING YOUR DAY

What time does the event run and how long can we stay for?

The event starts at 10am and concludes at 12pm. Come for a couple of hours and settle at the beach for the rest of the day if you wish.

What should we wear and bring?

  • Dress for the summer weather – along with a hat and sunscreen.
  • Picnic rugs, beach shades or deck chairs if you wish
  • BYO picnic and snacks or make a purchase from the Surf Life Saving Club on the day.
  • Water bottles and a cup for your coffee.

What shouldn’t we bring?

  • No pets please!
  • Adventures by the Sea is an alcohol and smoke-free event!

Can we take anything home with us?

Your children, memories, and litter! We ask you support Nature Play SA’s work as a not-for-profit organisation by not taking event materials home with you so we can continue to provide these for other children and families to enjoy at future events. Please also be aware that legislation and regulations prevent you from taking anything from the coastal line to protect the area and keep habitat intact for flora and fauna.

Will the event be cancelled in bad weather?

At Nature Play SA we’re all about outdoor play and go by the motto ‘there’s no such thing as bad weather’ Our events run with a forecast of rain and cold weather and we would only consider cancelling with severe weather warnings or in the instance the forecast is above 37 degrees, we’ll advise ticket holders via email, social media and our website. Refunds will be issued under these circumstances.

LOST CHILDREN & ASSISTANCE ON THE DAY

What happens if I lose my child at the event?

Please be aware that while there will be trained event and support staff on site children remain the responsibility of parents and/or carers. We have a lost child process in place at all our events so if you do become separated from your child or need assistance you can visit the information marquee or see event staff who will assist you.

What happens if I or my child requires first aid?

The first aid room is located in the Seacliff Surf Life Saving Club on the lower level. First aid is managed and coordinated by trained first aid trained professionals. Please see event staff if you require any first aid treatment.

ENVIRONMENT & SUSTAINABILITY

What can we do to look after the environment?

We ask you to care for the beach and be respectful of the environment, please provide space to any wildlife you may encounter.

How can we contribute towards making the event as sustainable as possible?

Some easy ways to contribute to the sustainability of Adventures by the Sea include:

  • Car-pooling
  • Minimising the waste you bring or purchase at the event – ‘nude food’ is encouraged!
  • Bringing your own keep-cup for warm drink purchases and refillable water bottles
  • Taking home your rubbish or disposing of any litter thoughtfully in the bin system provided.
