We all know that outdoor play and immersion in nature are vital for the health, wellbeing and development of children. A well designed outdoor space can connect children with the natural world and support their play, learning and development. But providing a well-designed space can be daunting – knowing how to begin, what to consider and making sure it’s a space children will benefit from.
These topics and more will be dealt with as we take you on a journey of nature playspace development from beginning to end and cover the value of outdoor learning, principles to consider, planning your space, the design process, costs and considerations, consultation and compliance.
This workshop is aimed at educators and school staff who want to understand how to deliver a well designed, vibrant and engaging outdoor space at your site. It is practical and information packed, led by Landscape Design Specialist, Peter Semple and Environmental Education expert, Jason Tyndall. Sessions will also be provided by loose parts learning environments advocate, Glenn Wagland from Mobile Junk & Nature Playgrounds and former Principal of St Anthony’s Catholic School, Amanda Parslow who will share their school’s design and development process and the impact the completed space has had on students.
