YOU’RE INVITED TO BE A PART OF THE NATURE PLAY FESTIVAL 2019!

Saturday 28 September to Sunday 20 October 2019

What is the Nature Play Festival?

The Nature Play Festival is an annual festival for children and their families which celebrates and encourages play outdoors in nature! The festival aims to highlight the importance of nature play for today’s generation of children and provides opportunities for families to access nature play events and activities across South Australia.

The festival is a collection of events over a three-week period organised and hosted by a range of organisations such as Local Government, State Government, non-government organisations, playgroups, education sites, nature clubs, friends groups, libraries and more!

This year we’ll be celebrating the festival from Saturday 28 September to Sunday 20 October 2019.

Who is Nature Play SA?

Nature Play SA is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to empower the South Australian community to engage more children with nature through outdoor learning and play. To achieve this vision, we collaborate with partners, organisations and allied businesses to inspire the South Australian community to have the confidence, commitment, passion and enthusiasm needed to get their children and communities outside into nature.

Who can get involved in the Nature Play Festival?

Organisations providing services or who work with children and families are invited to host nature play events and activities. Last year’s Nature Play Festival saw thousands of families engage in over 120 events provided by 42 organisations across South Australia.

Being involved in the festival demonstrates your organisation’s support for connecting children and families with nature, increases accessibility to nature play events and activities and provides opportunities to positively engage and connect with your local community.

What is the role of Nature Play SA in the Festival?

Nature Play SA’s role is to encourage and support organisations to host nature play inspired events for families. Once we receive the details of events being run over the festival period we consolidate them into an accessible online guide that allows families to view festival offerings in their local area. Nature Play SA will promote the festival and events via our social media platforms, website and investment in PR to target traditional media sources.

In addition, Nature Play SA will be involved in several events, including partnering with The City of Salsibury for Salisbury Plays at St Kilda on the 13th of October and  Flinders University to hold a major festival event, SpringFest, on Saturday 19 October. Our staff will actively visit other Nature Play Festival events to support and promote collaborating organisations.

What should the event/activity look like?

An event can be a short session, a full day or repeated over the period of the festival. It should preferably be held outside or otherwise linked to the outdoor environment. Event examples include mud days, cubby building, activities in creeks or other wild spaces, bush walks, reef rambles, nature crafts or anything that provides an experience to authentically connect with nature. We encourage the use of natural and/or recycled materials in activities wherever possible and support environmentally sustainable practices in the planning and hosting of festival events and activities.

How can I register my event(s) or activity so it can be promoted as part of the Festival?

If you would like to be involved, please complete and submit the online form here by 5pm Wednesday 25 July 2019. Events that meet the intention of the festival will be promoted via the guide. We may contact you for further information if needed.

Promotion

We encourage organisations to promote their events on their own social media and marketing channels in addition to the promotion Nature Play SA will conduct. Participating organisations can use the 2019 Nature Play Festival logo on their event marketing materials to highlight involvement and demonstrate a state-wide commitment to the festival. The festival logo is available here.

Nature Play SA will create a Facebook event to promote the Nature Play Festival and will use this platform to provide updates and information before and during the festival, including the release of the online Nature Play Festival guide.

Nature Play SA will also encourage host organisations and the community to share their festival activities and experiences on social media using the hashtag #natureplayfestival.
