As we navigate our way through COVID-19 our priorities on supporting families to get more nature into their everyday lives hasn’t changed. For now events have been postponed until further notice. Whilst our events provide much-needed financial support to keep our program alive the safety of our community has always been our upmost priority. We are also ensuring that all of our programs and services are following relevant Government guidelines. However, all is not lost as we have recently developed a free family guide to support our community during COVID-19 full of practical ideas with a strong focus on nurturing the mental health and wellbeing of families, including providing accessible, nature-based methods that can be practiced at home, your neighbourhood and nearby nature.

FAMILIES

We’re here to inspire you with ideas and opportunities to help you bring nature and adventure into your family’s life.

Research is telling us that children are spending less time outside than they have ever before. Backyards are shrinking, screen time is increasing and there are fewer children engaging with their local neighbourhood. Most of us can remember playing in the street, local park, or down the creek with the neighbourhood kids. But, times have changed.

If you’re interested in increasing your children’s engagement in unstructured play, and time spent outdoors, you’ve come to the right place. We’re here to provide ideas, encouragement and guidance on the little things you can do to make a big difference.

Unstructured play outdoors teaches children about themselves, the world around them, and the way they function within it. Their senses are fully engaged, curiosity is nurtured, speech and language skills are enhanced, problem solving and emotional regulation come to the forefront and, the big one, children learn about their capabilities and limitations – all of which are lifelong skills.

To support families in a shift toward more time spent outdoors, we run and participate in affordable events for your family to experience together. And, we have a range of lists and information sheets  available for download – free for anyone who’s interested.
