Do I need any previous experience to attend?

No previous experience is needed for our Beginner Birdwatching or Ecology Walks. These walks are for everyone, from complete beginners to experienced birdwatchers. You don’t need to know the names of birds or how to identify them. Just bring your curiosity and enjoy discovering the wildlife and habitats around you. Our Advanced Birdwatching Walks are designed for people with an existing interest in birdwatching and some knowledge of bird identification, as participants will be involved in bird surveys and recording observations.

Are bird walks suitable for children and families?

All our walks are family-friendly, although we recommend attending our Family Ecology Walk or Birdwatching for Beginners Walk which are tailored to young people and families. Children will enjoy spotting birds, listening to calls and looking for signs of wildlife.

Can I attend on my own?

You’re very welcome! Many people join walks on their own. They’re a lovely way to meet people with shared interests, enjoy some time outdoors and feel part of a friendly group.

Do I need to book, and is there a cost?

There is no cost, these walks are completely free, however registrations are essential.

What happens if it rains or the weather is bad?

Our walks will go ahead in light, suitable weather, but may be changed or cancelled in unsafe conditions. We’ll notify participants of any changes.

Are these walks suitable for beginners?

Absolutely. Our walks are a great way to get started, ask questions and learn at your own pace. There’s no pressure and no expectation that you’ll know anything beforehand. Please note, our Advanced Birdwatching Walks are designed for people with an existing interest in birdwatching and some knowledge of bird identification

Are the walks accessible for people with mobility aids, wheelchairs or prams?

Accessibility varies between locations. We’ll provide as much information as possible about paths, surfaces, slopes, steps, seating and accessible facilities. Please contact us if you’d like to check whether a particular walk is suitable for you.

Do I need to bring binoculars?

No. Binoculars and any other required resources will be provided on the day.

Will I be expected to keep up with the group?

The focus is on enjoying birds and nature, not rushing. We’ll explain the pace and format beforehand. Some walks may move slowly with frequent stops, while others may cover more ground. Choose the walk that best suits your needs.
