Neighbourhood Nature

Creative Masked Lapwing

The Masked Lapwing is incredibly creative. It has adapted to building simple ground nests in unexpected places such as school ovals, roundabouts, car parks, and urban parks.

“Creativity is using our imagination, trying new things and thinking outside the box. It’s important because it helps us see things in new ways and lets us show our thoughts, feelings, and ideas in our own unique style.”
– Southern Montessori School Student

“Just like the Masked Lapwing, we can create things in unexpected places, make different sounds or songs to express how we feel, or use sticks, leaves, and twigs to build a cubby to play in.”
– Southern Montessori School Student
